Tang Lok-yin (Hong Kong)
Tang Lok-yin was hailed as a brilliant composer and was commissioned by different parties
in Hong Kong and overseas.
Recent works include Hong Kong Arts Festival commissioned
opera “Tree Rhapsody”, New Vision Festival commissioned work "Mr Vampire", Mui
Cheuk-yin's Dance Theatre 'Love, Accidentally', awarded and commissioned by “Dr. Helmut
Sohmen composition prize” for a symphony orchestral work- “Movements-homage to Joseph
Haydn” which was performed in Vienna and Hong Kong, commissioned by American’s
renounced ensemble “Bang on a Can All Stars” for their PCF Concert, the commissioned by
Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra for suonas concerto etc. And the piece “Visage” was
commissioned by Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
Tang's works achieve mastery between Chinese and Western music, dabbled in instrumental
music, dance and opera's music. Tang’s music has been frequently performed around the
world, with a brilliant track record of prizes and awards to her credit, for instance, 1st prize of
Asian Pacific Festival Young Composer Composition Competition (New Zealand), Young
Composer Composition Award of Singapore Chinese Orchestra Composition Competition
and Outstanding Prize of "Palatino" Piano Composition Competition (China). Tang was also
awarded the ACL Yoshiro IRINO Memorial Prize in Asian Pacific Festival.
Tang received her bachelor and doctor degrees in Composition at The Hong Kong Academy
for Performing Arts and The Chinese University of Hong Kong respectively. She was the
awarded scholar of the Fulbright Scholarship (USA) to do the research in New York
Columbia University and she is also a grantee of Asian Cultural Council scholarship. Apart
from writing music, she also engages in arrangement, performance and educational
undertaking.
