Irene Galindo Quero (Spain)
Irene Galindo Quero was born in 1985 in Granada, Spain.
She studied composition in her native city with Pedro Guajardo, at the
Musikhochschule Freiburg with Cornelius Schwehr and with Johannes Schöllhorn at
the Musikhochschule Köln. Her formation was rounded through her participation in
Masterclasses with, among others, Steven Takasugi and Chaya Czernowin.
Her music has been performed by ensemble Surplus, Aleph Gitarrenquartett, Linea
Ensemble Strasbourg, ensemble aisthesis, ensemble cross.art, vorEcho, ensemble
alarm, L’Autre mOnde Ensemble, hand werk. Performances at Klangspuren Schwaz
2011, Baden-Württemberg Literatur Sommer 2010, Akademie der Künste Berlin,
Mehrklang Festival Freiburg, Newcomer-Konzert Wittener Tagen für neue
Kammermusik, new talents kunstbiennale Köln, e-Werk Freiburg, Concertgebouw
Brugge.
Literature has played, from the beginning, an important role in her work. She enjoys
working at the threshold of where the worlds of music and language meet one another,
superimpose themselves, or rub against one another. With regular performances in
the Kommunalen Kino Freiburg, she is also working in the fields of film and
installation, to which belong works such as the installation at the Staatsbücherei
Heidelberg in July 2010 or participation in the Ausstellung Regionale 11 in the
Kunstverein Freiburg from November 2010 to January 2011.
She has been recognized by several fellowships and awards -
Alexander von Humboldt 2007-08, La Caixa-DAAD 2008-11, Brahmshaus Baden-
Baden Aufenthaltstipendium Frühjahr 2009, Association des Amis de Royaumont
2009, Artist-in-Residence of the NRW Kunststiftung and the Goethe Institute in
Mumbai 2012.
She is currently working on an orchestre piece, supported by the Kunststiftung NRW,
which will be premiered at Achtbruecken Festival Cologne 2014. During this year she
will be artist-in-residence at the Kuenstlerdorf Schoeppingen.
