Alexandre Lunsqui was born in Sao Paulo (Brazil).

He studied at the University of Campinas, University of Iowa, Columbia University, and at the Institute de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique in Paris.

His main composition teachers were Tristan Murail, Fred Lerdahl and Jeremy Dale Roberts.

His music has won awards from the Arts Foundation (Funarte), Petrobras, the Ministry of Culture from Brazil, the Harvard University Fromm Music Foundation, Music at the Anthology, Composers Conference, Salvatore Martirano Award, among others.

His music has been played in countries such as Argentina, Austria, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, and around the US.

Recent engagements include works for the Talea Ensemble (US), Camerata Aberta (Brazil), the Brazilian National Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic.

Lunsqui is a Professor in composition and music theory at the State University of Sao Paulo (UNESP).
