Samuel Holloway (New Zealand)


Samuel Holloway Samuel Holloway (b. 1981) is an Auckland (New Zealand) based composer. He has studied composition and philosophy at The University of Auckland, and is currently a lecturer in music at Unitec, Auckland.

Samuel’s work has been performed by prominent artists and ensembles, including the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the NZTrio, Stephen De Pledge and Mark Menzies, in Asia, Europe and North America at such festivals as the ISCM-ACL World Music Days 2007 and the 2008 NZ International Festival of the Arts.

Samuel has been the recipient of a number of national and international awards, including the 19th ACL Yoshiro Irino Memorial Prize, and first prize in the 2007 (Hong Kong) Asian Composers League Young Composer Competition.

Samuel is a committee member of the Composers Association of New Zealand, and was convener of the Nelson Composers Workshop, an annual forum for the development of emerging composers, in 2008 and 2009. He is acting artistic director of the new music ensemble 175 East.
