Thomas Schön
Thomas Schön was born and raised in Vienna. His
musical education started with clarinet lessons
with Prof. Rudolf Jettel at the "Wiener
Musikhochschule".
He received his diploma in
clarinet with Prof. Horst Hajek in 1988. During
his studies, Thomas Schön began performing
intensively as a clarinetist in several Viennese
orchestras (Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera
House, Orchestra of the "Wiener Volksoper", the
Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Austrian
Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra) and as a soloist
and chamber musician in Austria and abroad.
Since
1988 he has also performed as saxophonist, visited workshops with
Jean-Marie Londeix and has been a member of the
Vienna Saxophone Quartet. Tours with the Vienna
Philharmonic Orchestra and the "Klangforum Wien" followed.
His prizes and distinctions include first prizes
at competitions of "Jugend musiziert", third
prize at the International Chamber Music
Competition for wind instruments in Martigny (CH)
and first prize at the East and West Aritsts
Audition in New York (both prizes with the Vienna
Saxophone Quartet).
He is a member of the Ensemble Reconsil since 2003.
